Portland State has added a 12th game to its 2013 football schedule as the Vikings will play host to Eastern Oregon University in its season-opener on Aug. 29, at JELD-WEN Field. The game between the Vikings and the Mountaineers will be a Thursday night contest, kicking off at 7:05 p.m. (Pacific).
PSU is taking advantage of a rare year when Football Championship Subdivision teams are allowed to play 12 games. As a result, PSU will have six home games and six road games in 2013. The Vikings will have two Thursday night home games and be televised on ROOT SPORTS three times in the Big Sky Conference Game of the Week.
"The more games you play, the more experience you gain, the better you can be," said Viking Coach Nigel Burton, who welcomes the opportunity for PSU to get a game in prior to facing Pac-12 California on Sept. 7. "I appreciate Eastern Oregon for coming through and allowing this game to be played."
"The date was available for both schools," said Portland State Athletics Director Torre Chisholm. "It was a chance to play a sister institution and add another home game for our fans."
This marks the first time in Portland State history it will have 12 regular season games.
